Zusammenfassung

Denken im Matsch

Materialismus, Akzidenz, Unfall in Kunst und Ästhetik 1921 – 1939 

Anhand von Fallbeispielen aus dem surrealistischen Aktivismus werden das Denken im Matsch und der damit verbundene Moment des Unfalls im Spannungsfeld zwischen altem und neuem Materialismus verhandelt. Zur zentralen Figur wird dabei der französische Schriftsteller und Philosoph Georges Bataille, dessen Werk, so die These, Verbindungslinien hin zum Diskurs des Neuen Materialismus ausbildet. Einer Lesart folgend, die Georges Bataille als Praktiker ernst nimmt, werden die Rituale der Geheimgesellschaft der Acéphale zu einem Schlüsselmoment in der Entwicklungsgeschichte der künstlerischen Forschung.

Thinking in the Mud

Materialism, contingency, accident in art and aesthetics 1921 – 1939 

Thinking in the mud, and the associated collision between old and new materialism, is discussed with reference to examples from surrealist activism. The French writer and philosopher Georges Bataille, whose work is seen here as a precursor of the discourse of new materialism, emerges as the central figure. In a reading that takes George Bataille seriously as a practitioner, the rituals of the secret society Acéphale become a key to the evolution of artistic research.
